Does Jungian
Analysis Work?
Many people in Jungian
Analysis have experienced positive results and outcomes in
terms of raising awareness, developing better coping
strategies, resolving core difficulties, experiencing
greater efficacy in the world, and improved
relationships.
In response to this
question, a study specifically designed to test the
question of the effectiveness of Jungian Analysis was
conducted in Switzerland. This naturalistic, prospective
process-outcome-study was carried out in international
cooperation with researchers in Heidelberg, Berlin and
Zurich. It was conducted between 1997 and 2003.
The conclusion of this study was: " Jungian
psychotherapy is effective in the treatment of patients
with a large range of disturbances and different degrees
of suffering. The methods, the setting (e.g. frequency)
and duration of therapy can be adapted to the needs of
the patients and thus are variable. – The average number
of hours of treatment is 100 for women and 74 for men.

How long does it
take?
This is one of most
frequently asked questions that people ask. The quick
answer is that all depends on the issue that needs to be
addressed. If you have been suffering from a particular
issue for a very long time, then you can expect that it
will take an equivalent amount of time to resolve it.
Some people find that they feel more empowered in a
short period of time (e.g. approximately 6 months).
There is sufficient research to show that long term
psychotherapy is necessary if people are to experience
long lasting change in their lives.
Others remain in
analysis for a number of years while they explore their
unconscious life patterns, and the deeper meaning and
purpose of their lives. At some point, analysis can
become a spiritual journey as clients touch the deeper
archetypal level of reality and meaning, and connect to
their deeper inner wisdom and guides. This often happens
after several years of analysis.
It is important to
consider that the amount of time in analysis and the
benefits derived from it are directly related to the
commitment and the energy that someone is willing to put
into to it.

How can I afford it?
In dreams, money is
often a symbol of energy and of values. It tells us
something very important about what is important to us -
what we value in ourselves and in others. Money can also
be a symbol of energy, personal resources and one's
potential. It is indicative of self-worth and power, it
is a statement of where our priorities are, reflects our
ability to earn the things that we want out of life. So
from a symbolic point of view, the money devoted to
address psychological issues and well-being is an
investment in your life and in realizing your potential.
From this perspective, the money that you invest in your
own psychological growth and healing is money well
spent.

What are your fees?
My regular fee is $100 an hour including GST for analytic
sessions. I do offer a sliding scale for students.
Please call if you would like to discuss this
possibility.
I offer astrological sessions at $150 for an hour and
$200 for an hour and a half. The higher rate reflects
the need to prepare the chart and other material in
advance of the session.

What is the
difference between a Jungian Analyst and Jungian
Oriented Psychotherapist?
The ideas advanced by
Jung have become very popular in recent years. Many
therapists have undergone their own Jungian analyses and
then incorporated their own experiences and learning
into their practice of psychotherapy. They often promote
themselves as psychotherapists with a Jungian
orientation or Jungian psychotherapists. Only someone
who has undergone the rigorous training program in
Jungian analysis and holds a Diploma in Analytical
Psychology from a recognized Jungian Institute, of which
there are many in the world, can call themselves a
Jungian Analyst. These training institutes are
accredited by the International Association for Analytical
Psychology and is equivalent to a PhD in the philosophy
of psychology.

What about Code of
Ethics and Confidentiality?
I am a professional
member of several associations including the Ontario
Society of Psychotherapists where I am also the
Chair of the Ethics Committee. As a clinical member and
a member in good standing of OSP, I abide by the
Society's code of ethics. To see the Code of Ethics,
click here. I am also committed to an ongoing
professional development program to refine my skills as
a Jungian psychoanalyst and therapist.
All analytic and
astrological sessions are confidential. There are few
exceptions to this which are based in the "Duty to Warn"
requirement that all psychotherapists must abide by. For
example, this rule is effective if you are threaten to
harm yourself or someone else or if a child is in
danger.
